Elevation 3617'
A nice cabin fever killer hike in the West Mountain foothills

In an area loosely described as the southwest foothills of the West Mountains, there are a handful of highpoints that realize just enough prominence to attain 'peak' status. Once of these peaks is located northwest of Emmett, just off Van Deusen Road. A jeep road leads to the summit, which offers up some good views of Squaw Butte to the east.

After hiking the French Corner Peaks earlier, I made my way over to Van Deusen. I parked just south of Rock Creek to make for a more sporting 2 mile hike round trip.

I hiked the road for a little while, then it was time to head up the jeep trail.

Here's a view of the peak from the east, and the steep jeep trail making its way up.

Summit view looking west toward the peaks I'd hiked earlier.

Time to head back down. Van Deusen Road below, Squaw Butte in the distance.

Map of my route. Round trip was just under 2 miles and 500' of elevation gain in 35 minutes.
