Sandstone Mountain is located in the Red Cliffs Desert Reserve, in southern Utah, just north or Hurricane. Very scenic area, and a short hike with just a little scrambling thrown in along the way to the summit. Follow the dirt road to the Sand Cover Trailhead, where the hike begins.

I got up early for a hike while on a family vacation, and made my way to the trailhead before sunrise.

After following the trail, I headed cross country once directly across from the gully on the west side.

A little bit of fun easy scrambling on the way up.

Once on the ridge, I elected to side-hill around the east side of the summit block, and was rewarded with some great views.

Short ridge walk to the summit of Sandstone Mountain.

Summit view looking back down at the trailhead.

I pretty much retraced by path back down, easy descent.

Final view looking back from near the trailhead.

Map of my route. 2.5 miles and 700' elevation gain round trip, in 1:15 of hiking.
