Dantes View Peak
Elevation 5,704'
Dantes View Peak is located in Death Valley National Park, just above the popular Dante’s View overlook. Its an easy hike from the overlook, and offers up some great views of the surrounding area, including Badwater Basin and Telescope Peak. The summit is a great spot for photography, with less crowds than the overlook.

I headed out for a quick morning hike while on a family vacation, and made it the Dante's Overlook just after sunrise. Here's the unmaintained but well used trail leaving the parking lot.

View of Telescope Peak, above Badwater Basin, from Dantes View Peak. Telescope Peak is the highest mountain in Death Valley National Park. And Badwater Basin is the lowest point in North America, 282 feet below sea level.

It was only a half mile hike to the summit, so I decided to continue on for another half mile toward Mount Parry, seen here in the distance along the ridge.

|
Time to head back, but first I had to retrace my steps back up the ridge to Dantes View Peak.

Map of my route. Just over 2 miles and 500' elevation gain round trip, in 45 minutes of leisurely hiking.
