Bane Canyon Loop Trail
A beautiful spring hike in Chino Hills State Park
May 15, 2025
Bane Canyon is located in southern California’s Chino Hills State Park. Spring is a great time to visit and enjoy the plentiful wildflowers. The yellow blooming ‘black mustard’ is particularly abundant. With a network of trails in the area, there are several loop options. The option we used was a little longer, but minimize road hiking.

We hiked on the street to the north of the park, and hiked the road for the first two-thirds of a mile. But the flowers and views were great, even from the road.

At the first trail intersection, we hung a right on the Bane Ridge Trail, and it wasn't long before we were surrounded by mustard flowers.

The trail is tight in places, but easy to follow even when surrounded by tall flowers.

Further up, the views get more expansive.

Did I mention there were lots of flowers? We originally planned on a 6 mile loop that included hiking the road back. But we were feeling good and decided a longer 8 mile loop with less road hiking would be more enjoyable. So we crossed the road and headed up the Corral Trail.

The trails on the east side of the loop see far less traffic, which made it feel more wild. But it was also dryer during our visit in May, which led to plenty of weed seeds in our socks.

This section of trail following the spine of the ridge was a highlight.

Some cactus to go with the wildflowers.

The last section of trail before meeting the road for the final section back down to the car.

Map of our route. Just under 8 miles and 1300' elevation gain round trip, in 3 hours of hiking. Highly recommended!
