Hot Spur Peak
Elevation 7810'
The southeastern foothills of central Idaho’s Boulder Mountains are located along Trail Creek Road, and are home to a few small peaks. One of these is nicknamed “Hot Spur Peak” (Peak 7810’). It is a bump found on one of the tree-less sagebrush ridges of Jerry Peak, and is located just outside of the wilderness area, east of the Burnt Creek drainage.

I was headed to bigger adventures, and stopped for a quick climb of this peak along the way. After a bumpy 2 mile drive (high clearance 4WD recommended) up Burnt Creek, I parked amongst the sagebrush and made my way up this draw.

I followed cow trails up the draw, and then the peak came into view.

After contouring around sagebrush slopes, I made it onto the northwest ridge of the peak.

Final stretch to the summit of Hot Spur Peak.

Good view of Mount Borah and the Lost River Range, from the summit of Hot Spur Peak.

From the summit of Hot Spur, looking at the sun setting behind the Boulder Mountains.

It was starting to get dark by the time I headed back down the draw toward the truck.

Map of our route. 3.4 miles and 800' elevation gain round trip, in 1.5 hours of hiking.
