Peak 10309’, aka “Swauger Peak”, aka “Derekfest Peak”, is located in eastern Idaho’s Lost River Range. It is found on the remote east side of the range, and is the highest peak on a divide that separates Dry Creek and Long Lost Creek. It also happened to be the last mountain in Idaho over 10,000 feet in elevation that Derek Percoski had not yet climbed. And the only one of the tallest 500 peaks too for that matter. Derek sent out an open invitation to all Idaho peak baggers to join him and his daughter for the historic climb. We ended up with a group of 19 folks, including almost all of the Idaho 11er finishers.

Derek found us a great group campsite north of Pass Creek Summit. Some excellent campfire stories were enjoyed by all.

After caravaning to Long Lost Creek, we were off and hiking up the Swauger Lake trail.

The trail took us up the saddle south of the peak, and from there we made our way up the open slopes.

Great views along the way, and just a little bit of rocky terrain to navigate below the highpoint.

Full group shot on the summit. Congrats Derek!

Most of the 11er finishers joined the climb. Some living legends right here!

After an extended visit to the summit, we descending the ridge, and then split up. Some back to the trailhead, some to climb another nearby peak, and the rest of us opted to visit Swauger Lake.

Heading down to Swauger Lake.

After some swimming and snacking, it was time to head back to the trailhead.

Map of our route. Around 6 miles and 2300' elevation gain round trip. What a great group to be a part of, and a true pleasure to join Derek on his history making ascent.
