A quick morning hike in northern California

Gasquet Mountain is located in the Klamath Mountains of northern California. Named for the nearby town of Gasquet, and located not for from Crescent City. A well graded road leads to the start of the hike, with another side road making for a sporting hike to near the summit. Only the final 20 yards requires some bushwhacking to reach the highpoint.

I was looking for a quick morning hike while my wife slept in during a little road trip we were taking. Gasquet Mountain ended up being a good choice. Here’s a view from where I started the hike, just before dawn.

A side road led up toward the summit, with not much elevation gain to contend with.

The last 20 yards was a short but challenging bushwack.

After some searching, I found the summit cairn in the brush.

Then just a quick hike back to the starting point.

Map of my route. Just under 2 miles and 200' elevation gain round trip, in a leisurely 40 minutes of hiking.
